The Hub

Commissioned by the Town of Coaldale, the Hub serves the municipality by providing a place  for community functions. Proximity to schools, the community centre, hospital and the  Cenotaph, the building becomes an important extension of the town’s public life.  Organized as a division between private office space and a public community room, the  building’s mass becomes a diagram of our strategy towards dividing the two. The taller portion  accommodates the volume for the gathering spaces, with offices housed under the lower roof. A  monolith divides the volumes, but more importantly marks the civic character (and entry) of the  building.
