102 Scenic Drive
Sited on the brow of Lethbridge’s coulees, and next to the city’s historic high-level bridge, 102 has been described as an “ocean-liner on the prairie”. Although not a floating vehicle, the architecture’s metaphorical buoyancy remains palpable. Long, continuous lines of horizontal deck diminish the visual gravity of such a large object and help break up its massive scale into identifiable floorplates. The decks give the concrete superstructure an authentic expression and dramatically extend the living area of the condos to the great outdoors, creating a synthetic continuity of the Albertan plains. Broken into two-construction phases, living units are organized around a protected courtyard and stacked on two levels of enclosed parking. A porte cachere marks the pedestrian entry of the building, where the residents enter at grade and can access the several private amenity spaces. The theatre, gym, lounge, cooking space, tool shop, and car showroom offer many recreational outlets for building residents. The building is designed to accommodate ranging family sizes, with 1,2, and 3 bedroom options. The upper penthouse level makes unique accommodations for larger custom suites.
